Cheek Cells

Today room 4 were looking at cheek cells. We wanted to see what our cheek cells would look like under the microscope. We worked in 3 groups and was given instructions on making a slide.
In our groups we were given a clear slide and a popsicle stick, sodium cloride , and purple dye. first we used the popsicle stick to rub the swab in and around the sides of our cheeks. The next step was to  attach the swab to the slide and add a drop of sodium cloride on top of the swab so that it would mix together. the next thing was to do the same thing and add a drop of purple dye to the sodium cloride and to the swab. Then we put it under the microscope and had a look at it.

Hypothesis: what does our cheek cells look under the micrscope?

Equipment:

  • Popsicle stick
  • Slide
  • Sodium cloride
  • Methylene blue (STAIN)

Method:
The first thing was one of our gruop members had to take the popsicle stick and swab it gentaly in thier mouth.
  • Then they had to transfer the cells onto the slide
  • After that we had to add a drop of sodium cloride to the slide
  • Then we had to ass a drop of stain to drop of sodium cloride .

Observation:
When we looked at the cells the first time is was on the lowest magnification. As i saw it it was reall small, and all i saw were small dots and little lines.
